5 years

Five years ago today, I married a person who I thought was very loving, warm and caring, intelligent, a man with a great sense of humor and a kind heart.

The first year was very trying - we both thought we married the wrong person - we had fun but we fought a lot too. It was level-setting our expectations from ourselves, in the relationship, as well as each other. We survived!!!!

The second year was better - there was love, but there was still a lack of complete harmony. Job changes and living in two different cities did not help improve the situation much. We didn't forget to have fun however....and we survived another year as well!!!!

The third year was very happening - we bought a home which was a happy but stressful occasion, and then towards the end of the year I got pregnant, which was again a happy but stressful affair in the first few months due to complications. I think it finally dawned on us during this year that we are in this for real, for good.

The fourth year was the happiest of all. The daughter was born, bringing immeasurable joy into our lives. We were smitten by her, we were in love with her - we put are differences aside and completely devoted ourselves to her. Hubby also stepped up and took amazing care of me during my challenging pregnancy....and I am very grateful for it. Oh and he was amazing during my labor and delivery as well!!!!!

The fifth year - the daughter continued to bring more love and more joy into our lives. We learnt how to parent a child without any support from elders. We learnt to care more and more for each other's needs. I think our bond became the strongest, and deepest this year.

I've learnt a lot during this time. I've learnt that the man I married - who I thought was very warm, loving and caring - is indeed so. He listens - whenever I have things to say. Whether I'm angry or just sharing, he patiently listens. He looks after me - he massages my feet when I'm tired, he makes me a cup of tea, he cooks for me, he folds my laundry - just to mention a few things. He shares more than 50% of the parenting and household chores with me. He showers his love in many ways - ranging from intangible to tangible gestures. His sense of humor and timing is brilliant - it works magic in diffusing tense situations. Having our daughter has been our greatest adventure together, and we're having a blast with it. But more than anything, what I've learnt is that my man has a very kind heart - a quality that is important above anything else.

Each year, our relationship has gotten better and better. All I hope for is that our future keeps chugging along the same path, and I see a beautiful life ahead of us.

To my hubby,

Thank you for loving me so much, for your amazing support towards my career, for your kindness and understanding in the little things in life that matter so much to me, for choosing to live a healthy lifestyle with me. Above all, thank you for being the most amazing dad to your mini-me - our daughter - it just melts my heart to see you both so happy with each other.

Here's wishing us many more years of blissful and blessed togetherness!!!!!

Happy Anniversary Dear Hubby - You are loved a lot!!!!!

{this moment} Date Night

"A Friday ritual. A single photo - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember" - SouleMama

Hubby and I got a rare opportunity to spend an evening together without the daughter. We attended the Intel Winter Ball at Sacramento Convention Center last weekend....we did not stay until the end but it was nice to dress up and socialize with friends and enjoy the grand festivities.

Here are a couple more pictures of the formal outfits that we were asked to wear :)....

One of my sister's friends who has always seen me in mommy-mode {think of PJs, t-shirt with food stains, hair tied up, and always a tired look} complimented me saying: "You look amazing...so different from what I've seen you so far" :) :) :) :)! Yeah, I still remember how to glam it up ;)

Tea for Two Tuesday - #1

So my SAS (i.e. Smart n Sexy) friend Preeti Shenoy's third book is releasing in Feb, and having read both are earlier releases (which are national bestsellers), I can say without a doubt that this one is going to be a great read. She has worked the hardest on this book. I am not a person who enjoys reading much fiction, but her writing is based on true stories or incidences from her life....and that is why it appeals so much to me. I am a huge fan of her writing style as well.

She is hosting this meme, which I am excited to be part of.

The creative prompt for this week is:
"If I could invite anybody for 'tea for two' today it would undoubtedly be .................................."

Tom Brady :)!!!!

There are very few athletes that I am a huge fan of. I love NFL just because of Brady. In case you didn't know, he is the New England Patriots quarterback. He is outstanding on the field (has already won 3 Superbowls and has another chance this year), he is very sincere and hard working, he is a team player, he is not shy of accepting his mistakes or poor performance, he is from California (SF area), and it doesn't hurt that he's handsome too ;)!

So yeah, it would be wonderful to have a tea-date with him ;)!!!!

Waking up....

I had a wonderful time chatting with my friend V (who is also a neighbor) until almost 2am last night. We met after the kids slept, and since we don't get to spend such time often after the daughter was born, we made the most of it. We exchanged a lot of verbal diarrhea, as she puts it - LOL!!!!

As a result....I slept in till late this morning. Fortunately, the daughter did so too. She woke up around 9am....and saw me sleeping next to her. She came and snuddled (snuggle+cuddle :)), caressed my cheeks, and then, very gently, she kissed me on my forehead.

I was in heavenly bliss. I did not want to open my eyes. I wanted this to continue and never end.

She waited, gazing at me, then took my palms, kissed them and placed them on her cheeks.

She then softly said, "Mumma" "Mummayo" "Mummyyyyy" - and waited.

I slowly opened my eyes, and there she was, snuddled up right next to me, giving me the sweetest smile that exists on this planet.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't scoop and gobble her all up.

My hubby just said - #1

I took inspiration of the post title from here: http://www.howtobeadad.com/category/my-wife-just-said

I just bought a huge bag of cuties from Costco and wanted to have a couple. I saw the bag was already open, so I knew the husband would have had some the previous day. So I asked him:

Me: "How do these cuties taste"?
Hubby: "They taste just as cute as me"!

LOL!!!!!

The husband has a great sense of humor....talks less, but cracks hilarious one liners often. I'll start posting them here in this series :)!

I absolutely LOVE this picture I took earlier this week. I nailed down the composition I had in mind, which made me very happy :). I edited the picture - changed to B/W + warmify....slight crop to remove a guy from the left.

Having traveled all over India by trains while growing up, I have a huge fascination of train tracks. They just set my mind wandering to amazing places. I have fond memories from all my train journeys that I took with my family in India. Looking at the picture above refreshed those memories and made me feel nostalgic!
